As skin cancer rates rise in U.S., so should awareness and prevention

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer. Research has shown that one in five Americans will develop some form of the disease in their lifetime. These facts make it crucial to be aware of skin cancer risks and to understand the importance of prevention and early detection, according to Army Maj. Laurel Stearns, dermatologist at the John P. Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
