As the Military Health System (MHS) celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, three members of the system are sharing how their experiences helped shaped how they serve. Navy Cmdr. HernĂ¡n Altamar is a staff urologist and the medical director for Healthcare Operations at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Army Maj. Nestor Ramos is a doctor at Fort Bliss, Texas, and Joseph Nieves is a retired Army staff sergeant who now works as a public affairs specialist at Walter Reed. While each has a unique story and family history, the common thread is how their heritage helped them become better MHS team members.
