House Passes Important VA Health Care Legislation, Votes to Extend Other Veterans Programs

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed two veterans related bills via bipartisan votes. Sponsored by Chairman Miller, H.R. 3521 would authorize 27 Department of Veterans Affairs major medical facility leases requested by VA in its fiscal year 2013 and 2014 budget submissions. H.R. 1402, as amended, is sponsored by Rep. Mike Coffman and would extend funding for a number of VA programs through the 2015 fiscal year, including VA's authority to operate its adaptive sports program for disabled veterans as well as nursing home services for certain veterans.

H.R. 3521 and 1402, as amended, now await consideration by the Senate. Following House passage of the bills, Chairman Miller released the below statement:

"The bipartisan cooperation that led to the passage of these bills serves as an important reminder of what's possible when Washington works together. Now, thousands of veterans are closer to obtaining more convenient and accessible medical care and wounded warriors across the nation stand to benefit from another year of adaptive sports opportunities. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to join with the House in support of H.R. 3521 and 1402 in short order." – Rep. Jeff Miller, Chairman, House Committee on Veterans' Affairs
