President Report
April 13 2013
It is official! By
the time you read this I have presented the Henderson Chapter with its charter
as VVA Chapter 1076. This is an amazing achievement – less than six months start
to finish. Don Sacco Started after last year’s National Convention and
completed the process in time to qualify the Chapter for representation at this
year’s National convention. Well done Don.
Our First Annual Vietnam Veterans Day in Nevada Event at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino on March 30th was a resounding success. Our guest speakers Dr Joe heck and Col Robert Nortny USAF were outstanding. Thanks to the leadership of Tom George and George Haussmann and the hard work of the program committee this first time event will doubtless be a major Chapter 17 event for many years.
Honor Flight Las
Vegas will be taking off May 3rd for Washington DC with 35 local
World War II veterans in part thanks to generous support from Chapter 17. A
second flight is scheduled for early this summer. If you know of any WWII vet
who would like to be on a second flight let us know at the Chapter Hall and we
will supply you with an application and contact information.
A gala fundraising
dinner for both Honor Flight Las Vegas and the North Las Vegas Veterans Guest
Lodge will be on May 11th at the Red Rock Hotel Casino. Call the
Chapter Hall for information.
We are gearing up for
JROTC presentations in late April and May. Please consider being a presenter at
your area High School. Talk with Pet Fabiani to schedule. Pet also has the
schedule for the Fireworks Booth.
Kudos also go to
Robert Serge for his excellent creation of the Vietnam Veterans of America
Chapter 17 and chapter 1076 Blog. A great deal of information about Chapter 17
activities is posted on the blog including the Fireworks Booth schedule so
there can no excuse for missing your shift. Robert has also created an up to
date VVA 17 Membership email roster. If you have an email account and are not
hearing regularly from Robert let him know to add your address to the list.
