THE WALL COMES TO MESQUITE

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 993, in sponsorship with the Eureka Community Initiative Foundation, is bringing the AVTT Traveling Wall to Mesquite, Nevada. This is an 80% replica of the original Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. It will be set up at the Mesquite Recreation Center.
Welcome Home week will begin on Saturday, October 19, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the Veterans Health Fair atSun City.  Flag raising will be at 8 a.m.  It is sponsored by Mesa View Hospital, Eureka Casino Resort and Sun City. The event is open to all veterans and their families and a free lunch will be cooked by the Mesquite Fire Fighters Association.
The Americn Legion is sponsoring a Poker Tournament at the Eureka Casino resort on Monday, October 21 at 6:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Texas Hold ‘Em $50.00 Buy In.
On Wednesday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m., the Wall will be joined by a Motorcycle Escort at the Paiute IndianReservation Travel Plaza, I-15, exit 75 with kickstands up at 3:00 p.m.  The first 200 riders who sign up on the website will receive an events vest pin sponsored by Zion Harley-Davidson.  (click here to sign up)
Upon arrival at Exit 122 in Mesquite, the procession will be joined by other vehicles assembled at the former Star parking lot on Sandhill Boulevard. The estimated time of arrival is 3:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The procession will travel east on Sandhill to Mesquite Boulevard, then turn right on Old Mill Road to the Mesquite Recreation Center. The Mesquite Veterans Center will host a hot dog picnic, donation requested.
The Opening Ceremony will be on Thursday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m. and viewing will be open to the public 24 hours each day until the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, October 27 at 3:00 p.m.
On Friday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. the Southern Paiute Veterans Association will conduct a Four Winds Ceremony to honor all veterans along with a Taps Chant to honor our fallen heroes.
Vietnam Veterans Honors Breakfast will be held on Saturday, October 26 at 8:00 a.m. in the Aquarium Room of the Eureka Casino Resort. We are honored that  Colonel Barry R. Cornish, Commander, 99th Air Base Wing, Nellis Air Force Base, will be our keynote speaker.  Tickets can be purchased in advance online by clicking here or at the Mesquite Veterans Center. A Service of Reconciliation will be held at the Wall at1:00 p.m.
On Sunday, October 27 at 12 noonMotorcycles will ride from I-15 Exit 112, Riverside, to the Traveling Wall and will form a salute.
1:00 p.m. Walk to the Wall and Touch the Wall will begin at the Library and end at the Wall.
2:00 p.m. Reading of the Names

3:00 p.m. Closing Ceremony
There will be a Changing of the Field Ceremony from the Traveling Wall to the Field of 1,000 Flags which will fly November 10 through November 17, sponsored by the Exchange Club.
The Mesquite Veterans Day Parade will be on Saturday, November 2 at 10:00 a.m.

PARKING will be at the Recreation Center, surrounding streets and at the former Star parking lot on Sandhill Boulevard where shuttles will be provided. Handicapped drop-off will be at the Recreation Center.
