In March 2013, DAV testified in support of S. 851, the Caregivers Expansion and Improvement Act of 2013, a bill that would extend VA's Caregiver Program to all seriously injured veterans incurred or aggravated in the line of duty, regardless of era of military service. This bill is fully consistent with DAV National Resolution No. 201, calling on Congress to provide parity of support for family caregivers of wounded, injured and ill service-connected veterans of all service eras.On July 24, 2013, the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee passed this measure, and the bill was recently placed on the Senate's legislative calendar. S. 851 is now available for Senate floor consideration.
Please contact your Senators and urge them to use their influence to pass this important measure.
As you may be aware, there is no companion bill for S. 851 in the House. Please contact your Representative to enact this measure quickly when they receive the bill after Senate passage, and send it to the President.
Please use the prepared e-mail or draft your own personal e-mail to request that your Senators and House Member support this important bill and ask that it be brought to the floor for a vote and enacted as soon as possible.
Thank you for all you do for veterans and their families, and for your active participation in DAV CAN.
