this is the message we should be passing on to all chapters. Numbers Matter !!!!!!!
I placed this article in the paper

Why should i join VVA.
I am sure you ask yourself why should I join, what is in it for me, or I belong to enough things, or I am done with anything military. Well the following is the reason! The ONLY way to change things for veterans is through legislation. When one of the veterans organizations goes in front of congress pleading the case for veterans, and congress knows they have 100,000 member nationally, they will accept what they say and probably go on to the next issue. BUT, if that same organization comes before congress with 1,000,000+ members, NOW the congressperson listens. This also applies to state and local levels. So even if you do not go to meeting, don't want anything to do with an organization, BUT you want the VA to change and things to get better for all veterans, join VVA so when they go before congress, congress will listen. As a bonus you might find you like being in a veterans organization helping fellow vets.

follow this up with that was said below, and you have a message all vets can understand…

Good afternoon,

VA and USA Badminton have been partnering to facilitate Badminton and Para-Badminton activities for older Veterans, disabled Veterans and disabled members of the Armed Forces for a few years, but today is a great day to inform you of a new opportunity in Para-Badminton.  USA Badminton is looking for disabled Veterans and disabled members of the Armed Forces to help form the core of the first-ever U.S. National Para-Badminton Team.

In October 2014, the International Paralympic Committee certified Para-Badminton as a Paralympic sport to be included in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.  Unfortunately, the programs and infrastructure supporting qualification for IPC certification tend to be more established in other countries and regions of the world.  USA Badminton is facing the challenge of developing the U.S. National Para-Badminton Team in time for the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships 2015 which will be held 8-13 September at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in England  http://www.bwfbadminton.org/news_item.aspx?id=92979.  The Para-Badminton classifications include three ambulatory, two wheelchair, and one short stature categories.  Therefore, Steve Kearney, the USA Badminton lead for developing the U.S. Para-Badminton National Team and developmental programs is seeking disabled Veteran athletes interested in competing for positions on the national and developmental teams.  In addition, any assistance in facilitating development of national, regional and community-based Paralympic and adaptive Badminton programs would be appreciated.

As part of the VA-USA Badminton partnership, USA Badminton is developing the standards in Para-Badminton and qualifying disabled Veterans will be eligible to receive the monthly assistance allowance for disabled Veterans training in Paralympic sports.  Also, USA Badminton manages the Badminton competition in the National Veterans Golden Age Games for Veterans 55-years-old and older.  In 2016, the Golden Age Games will be adding Wheelchair Badminton to their competitive events.  VA and USA Badminton are coordinating with some other adaptive sport entities on means to facilitate training and technical assistance to help develop this activity for disabled Veterans and disabled members of the Armed Forces.

For Para-Badminton questions and other contact info, Steve Kearney is available at (719) 360-3848 and stevekearney1@gmail.com.  Thank you and please let us know if you have any questions applicable for VA as well.

Mike
